German Situation Maps - France and Netherlands 1944
This is a series of original German situation maps form the Normandy D-Day invasion. Allied units labeled in red, German in blue. Airborn parachute and glider bourne troops landed starting just after midnight on June 6, 1944. Naval bombardment started at 5am, with beach landings commencing at 6:30am.

June 6, Invasion begins
June 12, Beacheads consolidated
June 29, Cotentin Peninsula and Cherbourg are captured at a cost to the Germans of 7000 dead, and 30,000 captured
July 9, Operation Goodwood captures Caen, a major crossroads
July 25-31, Operation Cobra leads to the breakout of the beachead area
August 12-21, the battle of the Falaise Pocket leads to the death of 10-15,000 German troops and the capture of 40-50,000 others and was a major turning point in the liberation of France.
August 19-25, the Liberation of Paris
September 17-25. Operation Market Garden. Allies captured the towns and bridges at Eindhoven, Wijchen, Nijmegen, and Oosterbeek. But failed to capture their primary objective of Arnhem and the bridge over the Rhine river.

and the German forces on the Cotentin Peninsula are cornered in the Cherbourg pocket.
10 July 1944 Cherbourg and Caen have been captured
8 August 1944 Post Operation Cobra, Allies have broken out of the beach head area
21 August 1944 The fall of the Falaise pocket and battle for Paris has begun
4 September 1944 Paris has been liberated, Allies moving East towards Holland
