US Army Field manuals (FM) and Technical Manuals (TM) are organized into broad
categories and grouped by number. For instance, FM 4 deals with issues
related to coastal defense, from operation of anti-aircraft searchlights,
to gunnary training for heavy guns. FM 23 field manuals are related to
small arms such as rifles and machine guns. Field manuals deal with operational
proceduers. Technical manuals focus more on repair, maintenance, and specifications.
